Columbia Peakfreak XCRSN Xcel Outdry – Not very comfortable, but the shoe is sturdy, water proof indeed and good looking.
Fit as expected, very comfortable and they look good. They feel very high quality and durable.
I did the tap test and held them under the water stream for five minutes. They are rugged yet light weight. They feel like trainers on steroids. If you’re looking for an alternative to hiking boots these are it. Waterproof and breathable, rugged yet light. I am a uk size 9 in all footwear. I ordered the uk 9 but had to return them for a uk 8.
Nice enough a little too big but would fit well with 2 pairs of socks.
- so wanted something that’s like a cross between the two
- Totally recommended
- Great walking trekking shoe
Very comfortable , waterproof and very cozy.
One of the best pairs of shoes/trainers i have every owned, very comfortable.

Used for dog walks in the woods and parks. Excellent water protection but the ankle area is very hard and occasionally you feel it but for normal walking, with a normal dog these are great and would recommend – the sole is nice and flexible too.
I would recommemd these to anyone. Bought them for walking up snowdon and they were perfect. Kept my feet dry and are extremely comfy. There’s really none ed to wear them in, but i did for a week at work because i didn’t want to take them off.
These shoes are fantastici bought these shoes a week before i went to scotland on a hiking and camping trip, didn’t wear them until the trip and didn’t any blisters or discomfort the whole time away. We did some serious walking over mountains and difficult terrain but they held up perfectly, plus these shoes are really waterproof. A must have for any walker/hiker.
I didn’t yet put it on real work but fits great and very nice looking.
Bought these as a christmas present to myself for walking an energetic spaniel through the countryside. Even during this incredibly wet winter they have kept my feet bone dry through standing water and thick mud as well as heavy rain. They dry pretty quickly and have been ready to go again after a good brushing off. Excellent grip and comfortable too. Paid £50 for them and definitely worth it.
Excellent, i enjoyed the waterproof function and i usually to wear during raining days.
Plenty of room, better fit than other cheaper makes, comfortable when walking.
Really impressed with these i am going to say light hiking shoes as they have very good grips and good heel and foot support the fit was just right for me, they have a water protection system that i have tested yet, but value for money these really impressed me as for around £45 your hard pushed to find anything as good as these.
Where i live there’s a lot of clay which makes walking when it’s wet a bit challenging. I’ve found walking boots make my feet sore and trainers have no grip on the slippery mud, so wanted something that’s like a cross between the two. These peakfreak are pretty much perfect: they’re light, have great grippy soles and are apparently waterproof. 5 as i normally wear 9-10 and they fit a little large, so i would probably have been better of with the 9. So far no complaints: look good, comfortable and grippy. Not had an opportunity to test the waterproof claim yet. Edit: only complaint after 9 months of wear is that the laces come undone really easily. One a two hour walk i’ll find myself retying the laces two or three times which is really annoying. I know i could double knot them but i like to be able to get shoes on and off quickly.
I noticed on other reviews the shoes were a little on the narrow side fit, so i knew they would be a good fit for a lady with slightly wider fitting ladies shoe size 🙂 extremely pleased to find they are actually water and gorsebrush proof as i live on west cumbrias coastline. Very comfortable and supportive shoe. I haven’t needed my orthotic support insoles with these shoes. This is a first for me in about 5 years since i had a severe sprain. I will definitely stick to these shoes from now on, as long as the company carry on making them to these specs.
Very comfortable from the off, and lovely and light.
Have now used them in a tropical climate for over a year and they have performed excellent & still look good. High quality materials, easy to clean down. Really breathable yet shower resistant. Gave me very confident footing when mountain walking and climbing – good tread pattern. Comfortable all day long and feel sturdy but not heavy.
Did the run it under the tap test and it’s dry as a bone. For me, i found these shoes to be comfortable and the sole provides good grip. I go hiking over flat terrain in these though i still switch back to the hiking boots for mountain hikes which offer more ankle support. Despite being waterproof, it breathes pretty well too and looks cool in the red. I paid under £50 for these.
Bought for my husband who is very fussy. He is very pleased to get these shoes at such a good price. They are very comfortable and waterproof. Could not believe how quickly they arrived.
Early days, but seems to be a good fit and shoe.
I would say the shoe is a bit wide and i have to tie them tight. I will try an insoul the shoes looks well made thou.
Amazon at first sent just the left shoe. This was easily resolved by returning this and a new pair was sent. I take a size 8 and these fit me fine, with enough room to allow for wearing thick socks. I bought these shoes for everyday casual use for the winter and have been fine so far, having worn them about 7 or 8 times. Well made and sturdy, they are not particularly comfortable or uncomfortable to wear but most importantly keep my feet warm and dry, have worn them in the rain a few times and they have kept my feet dry. It is sturdy but the grip is not great on some surfaces, even when it’s dry. I wouldn’t let this deter you from buying them though. All in all, well recommended for everyday winter use.
My brother found these comfortable, supportive and he’s very happy with them.
